If i WAS dual booting osx (which I think I'll do one of these days) it should theoretically be bootable from here. I have not tried this, but I can confirm that it does see the apple uefi "bios" on the system and has added entries to my macs boot loader (I run fedora 20 fyi, so a bit different but grub 2 just the same). the grub 2 boot loader supposedly can boot to mac osx. now if you ONLY wanted to boot ubuntu, the apple uefi would fail to find the osx operating system and just let the bootloader on the hard drive do its thing, and thats really what you want.
